Importance

The majority of DIRE's staff are live semi-nomadic lives as we follow our reindeer herds through the season.

Without our IWE our herds, and way of life, would be at risk.

WorkIng

Our canines are workers, first and foremost, but are also important members of our family.

We breed with the purpose of reindeer herd protectors, in the cases of our Vǫrðr lines, and sled or packing dogs in the case of our Freyr and Irish lines.

Vǫrðr and Freyer cross-breeding is acceptable only in the case of purpose breeding, you will typically find that the rare bitch herd guardian is a Vǫrðr/Freyer cross. Crosses are not conformation worthy! In the case of a 50/50 cross, offspring bred back to a full line dog/bitch results in a full line dog. Breeding between Irish lines and either Norwegian line are strictly prohibited.

Vǫrðr

Our Vǫrðr dogs follow tradition.

Trained from a young age to be

left solo or with pack

to guard their herds.

Rarely will an active Vǫrðr be included in a sled team.

Freyr

Freyr dogs are bred to be capable of carrying heavy loads and travelling long distances while pulling a sled.

Typically better suited for Conformation and eventing.

Dire's Irish line is a relatively new addition. Used more for general sled work and basic logging or packing.

These dogs excel in Conformation and service work.
